Dyspnea

Definition

The subjective sensation of difficult or labored breathing. It may occur at rest or with exertion and is a common symptom of cardiac and pulmonary disease.

Clinical Use

The patient reports dyspnea on exertion when walking to the bathroom; the nurse documents the activity tolerance and positions the patient in high Fowler's to ease breathing.
